Climate change and fisheries
Climate change, as defined by the UNFCCC is " a change of climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alters the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods". Global warming is estimated to have major immpacts on marine ecosystems through: ocean warming, increasing thermal stratification and reducing upwelling, sea level rise, increase in wave height and frequency, loss of sea ice, increased risk of diseases in marine biota and decrease in pH and carbonate ion concentrations of the surface oceans. Some of these might have indirect impact on fisheries. This bibliography provides information on ecological perspective (impact on fish and their habitat).
